An axe wound to the leg

The MAF base at Wewak on the north coast of PNG received word that there was a medevac patient at Yatoam, in the rugged central ranges of PNG.

The man had hit his leg with an axe, and was unable to walk.

This community is separated from the district headquarters at Oksapmin (with its medical aid post)  by the Buckel Mountains and the impressive Strickland River valley. This trip would have taken about 3 days being carried by others. As you can imagine, the risk of infection on a journey like that is pretty serious.

It was about 11:00am when P2-MFM touched down in Yatoam. Being a turbo charged Airvan it was able to climb the 6500 feet required to navigat the high terrain.

After loading the patient onboard with his 2 guardians, the aircraft took off covering the 22km in 14 minutes.

The Airvan is a real blessing in the highlands of PNG and many lives benefit from its operation. Thanks for your support in keeping it going!

Food Flight to Waat, South Sudan

In just one week, 93 passengers and over 6 tons of freight were flown to locations all over South Sudan, including medicines, a motorbike, a fridge and a washing machine.

In addition, MAFs PC12 aircraft flew 10 tons of Plumpy’nut food to Save the Children’s projects for malnourished children.

Malnutrition continues to be a problem in South Sudan due to ongoing instability, poverty and shortage of rainfall.

Adrian Went joined one of these food flights to Waat – watch his photo slideshow here.

Cyclone Giovanna

Following the damage done by the cyclone that hit the east coast of Madagascar on 14 February, we flew in several Medair and Care staff to assess the damage and see how they can help those affected. One of the people they met was a young mother whose house was destroyed in the storm.

According to the National Government Disaster and Risk Management Agency, over 20 people died, with more than 256,100 affected. Pray for those who have lost loved ones and for the regions affected.

MAF Pilot gets Bible’s to the Jungle

Bibles in PNGMAF Pilot Brad Venter is based in Papua New Guinea.  Here he gets to fly to some of the most remote areas on the planet enabling people living in those areas access to services and resources they wouldnt otherwise have.

As a Christian Brad is willing and able to make possible access to the Bible for people in these communities and always carries a couple of Bibles with him as he flies so he can sell them (at cost or less) to people wanting them.  Amazingly it can be difficult to get Bibles even in Papua New Guinea cities – so for people living in jungle areas it would be virtually impossible if not for people like Brad who travel out to these areas frequently as an MAF pilot.

Brad is assisted in this by Learning Technologies Papua New Guinea, a ministry of CRMF supporting the training and spiritual growth of the Church in PNG. Brad and LT PNG are based in Goroka, EHP, Papua New Guinea
